'André Bruyns works alongside David Sadie and, when it comes to Chenin Blanc, some of the latter's magic touch seems to have rubbed off on him. Fermented in concrete and aged in older wood, it's leesy, racy and waxy, with subtle gunflint reduction, incredible palate length and the complexity and vibrancy of the best 2019 whites. Drink 2021-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100

'Ethereal & alluring 2019 tempts & teases. Broad, textured palate from bunch pressing, natural ferment & portion in concrete tank. Pear, peach & nectarine with lifted, fresh acid offset by creamy pithiness. Paardeberg granite, dryland bushvines.' – Platter's Guide. 4.5* (94/100)

'Grapes from three different Paardeberg vineyards. Again some flinty reduction before naartjie and peach on the nose while the palate has good fruit expression, bright acidity and a pithy finish. Lean and austere in the best way, this is very much true to its origins.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100

Swartland Chenin blanc has a very distinct expression. There are many pockets within the region that will highlight different aspects of the grape. This wine is an expression of the style of Chenin that is produced from the terroir of the Paardeberg mountain. Different slopes and aspects combine with deep, decomposed granite soil to produce a wine that is fresh, focused and austere. Three dryland vineyards, planted in 1976, 1981 and 1998 respectively, combine to produce a wine that is textured and has a typical pithy finish that is so common to the white wines of this area. This wine will reward ageing.

Producer information André Bruyns, assistant winemaker to David and Nadia Sadie, makes wine under his own label called City on a Hill. This project was started in 2015 and his first release was a white blend. He sources grapes from old vineyards and vinifies grapes as naturally as possible, with a focus on site specific wines. In addition to a white blend, André also produces a Red, a Chenin Blanc and Muscat d'Alexandrie wine.
