‘The 2023 Xarel.lo was produced with grapes from 50-year-old vines at 300 meters in altitude on the property, fermented in stainless steel and matured mostly in stainless steel and 20% in concrete for four months with the lees. It has 12.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.25. It's varietal, light, fresh and very balsamic, with intense notes of camphor, bay leaf and even mint, medicinal and pungent. It has a clean and bright color denoting youth and a clean and precise palate with mellow acidity and a bitter twist in the finish. It was bottled in February 2024.’ – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 91/100

‘Smells young – of fermentation aromas. Fresh celery, lime bonbons, fennel and a soft smudge of liquorice. Soft texture – like goose down – but the very opposite of 'no texture'. You really can feel this wine. Long, introvert and so understated it's a statement. Super-elegant. 2024-2029’ – Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, 17/20

Producer information Since 1497, and for more than 20 generations, the Raventós family has been working the land and tending vines in Penedès region in Spain. 21st generation, Pepe Raventós, official joined the family business, Raventós I Blanc in 2001, and started his own project, Mas del Serral in 2014. Can Sumoi was started in 2017, a collaboration between Pepe Raventos and his childhood friend Francesc Escala. The focus is on organically grown indigenous varieties namely Parellada, Montonega, Garnatxa, Xarel.lo and Sumoll with minimal intervention in the cellar. There are 30 hectares of vines surrounded by 380 hectares of forest on this ancient (and previously abandoned) estate, with an average vine age of 50-years and situated 600m above sea level. Recently, Can Sumoi was listed as ‘one of the 100 best wineries in the world’, by Wine & Spirits Magazine. ‘Readers familiar with the Raventos’ range of sparkling wines won’t be surprised to hear that the quality of these still wines is quite high, especially for the prices.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous.
