Tasting notes:
'Dull amber in colour, the nose shows cut apple, a hint of honey, dried herbs and white pepper. The palate is rich, broad and flavourful, a very slight grippy quality to the finish. It’s pleasantly rustic – any lack of refinement it makes up for in interest factor. Not yet released.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 90/100

‘Beautiful bronze tinted colour leads to ‘natural’ nose, some greengauge, green bean, saline and iodine notes. The palate is clean, salty and pure with bone dry invigorating length. Not your typical Sauvignon Blanc, a rare wine, especially if you enjoy some refined herbaceousness, over notes of quince, dried guava, black currant and fig. There is a lovely texture and creaminess to the palate supported by the oxidative complexity. There is a great purity that unfolds of citrus spritz, sea spray and kelp flavours, and opens up beautifully in the glass. Grown by Danie Carinus on Polkadraai, and made in the Lukas van Loggerenberg cellar. ’ – James Pietersen (May 2020)

‘I believe Sauvignon Blanc is a great grape, but unfortunately it has fallen into a one style wonder (usually anyway) where it is fermented with Vin 17 yeast and tastes more or less the same. I wanted to make Sauvignon Blanc in a more natural style, where I do as little to the wine as possible to show the true colors of the grape. The grapes come from Polkadraai, picked on 1 Feb 2019. The grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented in an egg for 2 weeks. Grapes were pressed and returned to the egg and left until November 19 when it was bottled. I only added sulfur (very little) a few days before bottling, and nothing before that.’ – Winemaker, Chris Groenewald
