'Grapes from Henk Laing’s property on Citrusdal Mountain, this wine as made by Ginny Povall is worthy of purchasing every year but the 2019 is a particularly beautiful rendition. A beguiling nose of pear, peach, citrus, a hint of guava, fynbos and a slight leesy note. The palate is full but equally very well defined – impressive fruit density and bright acidity before a finish that’s long and dry. Utterly compelling. Tasted pre-release.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 97/100

'An annual shoo-in as one of the Cape's outstanding Chenin Blancs, all of it sourced from Henk Laing's Citrusdal Mountain farm, this was picked early in 2019 and has even more focus, complexity and palate length than normal. With notes of white pepper, wet stones and subtle, struck match reduction, it's a long, effortlessly nuanced wine. 2021-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 96/100

'Heady aromas of orange blossom & citrus oil on 2019 from Citrusdal Mountain, with lovely rich mouthfeel. Fermented & 6 months in old barrel. Sure to age beautifully, as 2018 (5 stars, 95 pts) & previous - though just short of continuing the long track record of maximum 5 stars.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'Complex and elegant, with layers of pure, concentrated pear, citrus and stone fruit avors, mouth-watering acidity and a tangy, mineral core.' – Ginny Povall, Winemaker

Producer information Botanica, located on Protea Heights farm, was founded in 2009 by owner and winemaker, Ginny Povall. Ginny flies somewhat under the radar but is best known for her multiple Platter’s 5-star winner, the Mary Delany Chenin Blanc. Since Protea Heights farm was the first in South Africa to cultivate indigenous protea flowers commercially, it is fitting that the wine labels are floral themed. Just under half of the 21.6 hectares are planted with indeginous flowers, and since 2014 Botanica has been practicing organic farming in their vineyards. There’s a wonderful sense of quiet purpose and ‘painterly’ aesthetic to Ginny’s approach to winemaking.
