Bollinger, Bond Limited Edition 1500ml 2011France, Champagne
In 1829, Athanase de Villermont together with Joseph Bollinger and Paul Renaudin, founded Renaudin-Bollinger & Cie, a champagne house in Aÿ that would carry on through the centuries. In 1920, it was Jacques Bollinger, owner of the House, who increased Bollinger's prominence across the Channel. The House has remained in the family since the beginning of its creation, and it was only in 2008 that a non-family member was appointed as Chairman. However, through the changes, Champagne Bollinger still uphold their traditional craftsmanship, principles and values.
Bollinger owns around 160ha of vineyard which account for about 60% of their requirements. They are planted to about 60% Pinot Noir. Except in the very best vintages, only the first pressings are used (the rest being sold off) and Bollinger still carries out first fermentations in oak.
007 Limited Edition:
Champagne Bollinger has unveiled a new Bollinger 007 limited edition bottle to mark their 40th anniversary with the James Bond franchise. It is also the first time that Bollinger has released the 2011 vintage from their wine cellars. The wine is sourced from a single grand cru vineyard in Aÿ-Champagne, France, and was vinified in oak barrels before being aged for seven years under cork. The excellent 2011 harvest in Aÿ, produced complex, powerful and harmonious Pinot Noir, fully expressed in this characterful wine.
The number ‘25’ appears on the limited-edition bottle to mark the release of the 25th film in the James Bond series. The titles of all previous James Bond films make up the number 25 and also appear on the glass lid of the wooden case.
100% Pinot Noir
‘It has a very unique taste—a little like James Bond in taste,’ says Charles-Armand de Belenet, Bollinger’s general manager. ‘A fantastic balance of power and elegance.’ The wine’s aromas are described as honey and hard candy – both evoking the richness of a Pinot Noir. It is golden in colour with glints of copper, offering rich notes of stewed fruits that result in a round texture.
