About Boekenhoutskloof:
Boekenhoutskloof, located in the Franschhoek valley, was established in 1776 and gets its name ‘Boekenhout’ from an indigenous Beech tree. Boekenhoutskloof, managed by Marc Kent, describes themself as a Syrah specialist. They have various brands within their portfolio including Boekenhoutskloof, The Wolftrap, Porcupine Ridge and The Chocolate Block. Their efforts in conservation can be seen through initiatives they have taken-on in their farm and surrounding areas. They are also a founding member of the Franschhoek Mountain Conservancy.

Rounding out their well-defined regional offering is the Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016. It is made in a more modern and accessible style. It offers plush fruit rounded out by attractive new oak. It is a wonderful expression of the vibrancy of Helderberg fruit.

Tasting note:
'A Cabernet that captures the power and density of Helderberg fruit, even from the cooler False Bay side, this includes 7% Cabernet Franc for perfume. Powerful and plush, with ripe blackberry and damson fruit and plenty of new wood. 2020-30' – Tim Atkin SA Report 2018, 93/100

'The 2016 Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Helderberg region and was matured in 60% new oak, the rest second-fill, for 18 months. It has a smoky, quite meaty bouquet, and the Cabernet Franc (8% of the blend) imparts a light bell pepper aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and a little chewy in the mouth, offering blackberry and cedar, then midway more red fruit than I anticipated, and a smooth finish. Drink over the next four to six years.' – Neal Martin Report 2018, 89/100
