Occultum Lapidem 2018 – the ‘hidden gem of Roussillon’

We’re thrilled to have Chapoutier’s Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem 2018 back in stock! A ‘hidden gem’, it speaks of the ‘treasure trove of beautiful, character-filled wines’ the Côtes-du-Roussillon has to offer, writes Jeb Dunnuck. From 50-year-old vines on savage soils, it’s a powerful, structured and concentrated wine that seriously overdelivers at R295 per bottle.

For Michel Chapoutier, the ‘Roussillon is like the Northern Rhône in Languedoc-Roussillon’, with ancient black and brown Schist-rich soils that allow him to explore his passion for terroir. Occultum Lapidem, from the excellent 2018 vintage, is a three-way blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan from biodynamically farmed vineyards. It showcases remarkably deep blackberry fruit, balanced by wonderful minerality and perfume from the limestone and gneiss soils.

Also on offer is the Occultum Lapidem Blanc 2018 – a classic Rhône-style blend of Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris. With its rich stone fruit and citrus appeal, it’s a great winter white.
