Beeslaar Pinotage 2022 Bottle size: 750ml
South Africa, Stellenbosch
R660
‘Beeslaar comes from a comparatively large, four-hectare parcel on shale soils and makes an interesting contrast with Kanonkop's Black Label Pinotage. Pure, floral, ethereal and hauntingly perfumed, it has stylish, scented 50% new wood, fine-grained tannins, plum, strawberry and goji berry flavours and a lingering finish. 2025-35’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 96/100
‘Matured for 20 months in 225-litre barrels, 50% new. Plum, black cherry, vanilla and spice on the nose. The palate is sweet and rich, although bright acidity lends balance, the tannins rather chewy at this stage. Luscious upfront but ends dry.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100
‘Dense crimson-red colour, bursting with scented aromas of cranberry, raspberry, crème de cassis and macerated cherries, supported by notes of oak spice, tobacco leaf and Fynbos shrub. The palate is rich, luscious, and powerful, with a framework of juicy plum and black cherry flavours complimented by French oak, potpourri spices and an earthy herbaceous undertone. The wine offers layers of dark chocolate, bramble berries and Asian spice along an integrated and gentle oak-driven essence on the lengthy finish. A wine that is age worthy, complex and elegant.’ – Winemaker

Producer information | Award-winning winemaker, Abrie Beeslaar, has been the winemaker at Kanonkop since 2002. His love of South Africa’s unique grape variety, Pinotage, led him to establish his own brand, Beeslaar, in 2011. ‘I guess one could argue that I didn’t pick Pinotage – instead, it picked me,’ says Abrie. Beeslaar is a family-run business, producing a single, high-end Pinotage. The grapes are sourced from a 2.5-hectare vineyard of old bush vines in the Simonsberg region and the wine produced is a true expression of its terroir. |
