Hamilton Russell Vineyards Ashbourne Pinotage 2019 Bottle size: 1500ml
South Africa, Hemel-en-Aarde
R2,000
‘Made with the touch of top Pinot Noir producer, Emul Ross's Pinotage is one of the most nuanced and complex in the Cape. Floral, racy and nuanced, with delicate tannins, wild strawberry and pomegranate fruit, some pepper spice from partial stem addition and a fine, tapering finish. Bravo! 2021-28’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 96/100
‘Rich 2019 has charming mulberry & brambleberry matched with savoury tapenade, lush, silky tannins. Complexly vinified, with dried stalks added back during wholeberry ferment. Raised in 40% new barrels & foudres, 10 months. Also in 1.5L.’ – Greg Mutambe, Platter’s Guide, 4.5*(93/100)
‘The 2019 Ashbourne Pinotage/Cinsault is a blend of 86% and 14% respectively. It has a strong menthol and star-anise-tinged bouquet not unlike that of the Southern Right Pinotage. The palate is quite different, though; fleshier, with more red fruit and better delineation toward the lightly spiced, rooibos-tinged finish. One of the best recent releases from the Hamiltons. Drinking window: 2021 - 2032’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100
‘From the maiden release in 2001, this benchmark wine has redefined South Africa’s own red grape variety, Pinotage, with its classic, refined styling and unique complex character. This is a wine unlike anything else, intense, rich and savoury with a beautiful underlying minerality.’ – Ashbourne Wines
