'Out of what seems like the tallest bottle in the world comes this ripe wood-aged wine. The wood does reduce the crisp acidity of Alvarinho but it flatters its riper side. Pineapple and citrus flavors are in fine harmony with spice and texture in this wine, now ready to drink.' – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100
'The 2019 Alvarinho Muros de Melgaço, one of Mendes's earliest and most iconic brands, comes in an oversized Moscato-like flute for a bottle. It is an Alvarinho aged for six months in used French oak. It comes in at 12.9% alcohol, 1.5 grams of residual sugar and 6.9 of total acidity. Lovely again this year, this is balanced, fresh and lively. It perfectly handles its oak. It seems to be in fine form, able to age and develop as time goes on. It's not particularly intense, but it is refined and elegant. It certainly has some chance to improve more with a couple years of cellaring. Drink 2021-2033.' – Mark Squires, Wine Advocate, 91/100
