'"The best Semillon site in South Africa" is how Chris Alheit describes Anton and Koos Roux's
1936 La Colline vineyard, which "performed very well in a tough vintage". Leesy, herbal,
layered, textured and dense, this has palate-coating intensity and complexity, aniseed, crème
fraîche and grapefruit pith flavours and a hint of stone fruit sweetness.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 96/100
‘Opening to a waxy and expressive nose, the 2022 Monument Sémillon offers aromas of spiced peach and wax melon essences before displaying a delightful floral lift. Medium-bodied yet impressively weighted, the mouthfeel is complex on the palate, revealing surprising breadth and depth before ending with a rocky, mineral-laced finish. Give it one more year and drink over the next decade or so. Only 2,600 bottles were produced after resting in used oak. 2024-2034’ – Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 92/100
'Remarkably tropically floral on the nose. Frangipani and lime leaf and mimosa blossom. But it's not tropical or floral on the palate at all! Something marine-like about it … the way it sucks in like the tide and swirls around rockiness, the way it tastes of salted shells and dune grass. There is sweetness there too, though: yellow cherry, cardamom. A hint of beeswax. And it sails into a finish that feels like salted lime served on white linen. A striking, handsome wine.' - Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20
