AA Badenhorst Sout van die Aarde Palomino 2020 Bottle size: 750ml
South Africa, Western Cape
R465
'The nose is a little neutral but there are hints of pear, white peach and herbs. The palate is lean and fresh – nicely delineated fruit before a finish that super-dry and saline.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100
'Palomino was used mainly to produce sherry and sherry - styled wines in South Africa. Very few of these vineyards remain and this Brakkuil vineyard is one of them. A rare bottling of this varietal shows the vineyard and varietal very well. The wine is pure, delicate, vinous, and savoury/salty to the taste.' – Adi Badenhorst, Winemaker

Producer information | AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The farm is owned by cousins, Hein and Adi Badenhorst, and over the last decade, 41 hectares of old vines, the oldest planted back in 1952, have been farmed back to glory. They practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner. 'The top wines translate Swartland through Adi's fuzzy logic and irresistible charm,' writes Neal Martin after a visit. He also calls his visit one of his 'top 10 wine visits of all time'. |
