'The 2019 The Golden Slopes Chenin Blanc, whole-bunch-pressed straight into a small old oak foudre, has a resinous bouquet of beeswax and light Conference pear aromas. The aromatics just need a little egging on. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity; this is a more "neutral" take on the grape variety. 'The Golden Slopes wine is named after the deep yellow coloured granite rocks found in this single vineyard (planted in 1966). The soils are composite of course granite with a 15% clay component. This results in grapes that ripen slightly later than the other vineyards on the farm. The wine always has plenty of texture and tension on the palate, wonderfully balanced acidity, and length. The aromas are dominated by yellow fruits, quince, and spicy notes.' – Adi Badenhorst, Winemaker

Producer information AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The farm is owned by cousins, Hein and Adi Badenhorst, and over the last decade, 41 hectares of old vines, the oldest planted back in 1952, have been farmed back to glory. They practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner. 'The top wines translate Swartland through Adi's fuzzy logic and irresistible charm,' writes Neal Martin after a visit. He also calls his visit one of his 'top 10 wine visits of all time'.
