Chris Albrecht, who has been under the guidance of Peter Finlayson since 2010, took over the production reins at Bouchard Finlayson in 2017. They continue to map out this incredible terroir, and the Kaaimansgat Chardonnay truly captures its greatness. This is a wine that will stand the test of time.

A magnificent wine from a special site
‘Widely regarded as one of the best Chardonnay sites in the Cape’ – Tim Atkin MW
The Kaaimansgat vineyard is a special place. Situated 700m above sea level in the unique Elandskloof Valley, its high altitude and continental climate allow the grapes to ripen up to a month later than most Chardonnay vineyards. Having been connected to this site for two decades, the Bouchard Finlayson Kaaimansgat Chardonnay offers a proven track record and remarkable maturation potential at a brilliant price.
The first time this wine caught my attention was in 1999, when I tasted the 1995 vintage in Ireland. It was world class! I’ve drunk these on many occasions since, but the next ‘sit back and take notice’ moment was in 2017 when I tasted the 1997 – then 20 years old. It was sensational. The Bouchard Finlayson Kaaimansgat Chardonnay 2021 is taut with bright lemon and lime fruit. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is linear and focussed, boasting a long, refined finish.
