Gabriel-Glas 'One for All' Gold Edition Wine Glasses. Lead-free, Austrian mouth-blown crystal. Weight: 90 grams.
After rigorously testing 5 'best of the best' universal wine glasses, Wine Folly has chosen the Standard Gabriel-Glas as the 'World's Best Wine Glass'. Privately and professionally, we love the versatility of these exceptional glasses and have been using them at our tastings and events for years.
Learning how to judge the perfect wine glass takes a lot of experience which is why Madeline and her team held off on assessing stemware for several years. After testing nearly 100 glasses, they narrowed down the world’s top selection to 5 favourites – Zwiesel, the Jancis Robinson + Richard Brendon '1', Zalto and both the Gabriel-Glas Standard and Gold editions.
‘Naturally, it was impossible to pick just one,' says Madeline, so they chose two. Considering that the Gabriel-Glas is the least expensive of the 5, at under R 200 per stem, we know we’re on to a winner here.
The Gabriel-Glas was designed by renowned Swiss wine critic René Gabriel, who set out to produce a ‘One for All’ glass that would complement everything from Champagne to red wine. The Gold edition glasses are mouth-blown, weighing only 90g, while the Standard glasses are machine molded and are slightly heavier and more robust. When switching from Champagne to Riesling to Syrah to Port during dinner or a tasting, this is the only wine glass you'll need.
Critics' notes:
‘It delivers flavours in a sequential manner. This trait makes Gabriel-Glas fantastic for blind tasting and for improving your palate. The fruit delivery was equal to Zalto, but more fresh in style.’ – Madeline Puckette, Wine Folly
'The Gabriel Glass amplifies the wine’s bouquet and is brilliantly fine and light. It’s wafer thin and an absolute delight to use...I urge you to test drive one as soon as possible.' – Bob Campbell MW
'It's pretty close to the ideal Swiss army knife glass in that you can use it for pretty much any wine and it costs about half of most top-end stemware.' – Matt Crafton, Château Montelena
'You'll be able to notice the difference in how it makes your wines sing no matter the style of wine you pour in it. Wines are lifted and more expressive.' – Vogue
