Series C

Vilafonte, Series C 2015

S/O

0 in stock

Notes

57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 9% Malbec

Production:
Matured for 22 months in French oak, 67% new French barriques, with the balance of older oak.

Tasting notes:
Series C 2015 shows great depth of colour and an impressive red-black to the rim. An intriguing nose opens with generous layers of dark fruit, an attractive cassis and French lavender perfume. Finally notes of pencil shavings, cacao and cedar elevates the complexity of this blend. On the palate Series C shows poise, with silky and seamless integration of tannins, refreshing mid-palate acidity with rich fruit and caramelized woody flavours that have great length. This wine exemplifies both freshness and concentration of fruit with great potential to mature and evolve over the next decade or more.

'Dark mulberry plum colour, this wine has a most seductive nose of blueberry, cassis, and mulberry fruits interwoven with violets, graphite, mocha and cedary oak spice. A very measured, classical style of wine that fawns its Cabernet Sauvignon dominated credentials. Rich, seductive and opulent in its youth as you’d expect, but the extra broody layers of white pepper, dusty minerality and black cherry pith suggest a more serious, complex side to the wine. The palate is dense and creamy, but also so beautifully proportioned like a chiselled, well honed athlete. Great depth, Cab power and harmonious balance, finely polished tannins and sleek integrated fresh acids, this is a very impressive blend from a fantastic vintage. Power and pedigree, a wine that demands your attention and engages your senses. – Greg Sherwood MW, 96/100

'Bright crimson rim with dark core, the wine immediately shows its prowess and power in the glass. Notes of ripe figs, black currant, dark chocolate and oak spice dazzles the nose and leads to a richly textured, pure-fruited palate. Undoubtedly modern and luxuriously textured it shows some sweet ‘puppy-fat’ at the moment which should melt away with age. It is dense and yet freshly elegant, packed with powerful, silky tannins that carry the layers of fruit through a very long finish. Drink 2020-2035.' – Roland Peens, 93/100 (Tasted blind 19 October 2017)
