Highest-rated wine from Tim Atkin: Boschkloof Epilogue 2017 with 99/100

Syrah has come a long way in SA and, earlier this year, we highlighted both the top-scoring reds in Tim Atkin’s 2019 SA Report, which you can buy and download here. Both from the exceptional 2017 vintage, the Boschkloof Epilogue and Porseleinberg are wines of world-class standing!

Tim Atkin MW tasted over 2,000 wines this year, making this his largest report to date, and continues to highlight the very best that SA has to offer. To see all the available wines scoring 95 and above, view our full list. We will be adding to this list as wines are released during the day. See more highlights below.

Tim Atkin 2019 Special SA Report

Chenin Blanc was the star white in the report, of course, together with Chardonnay. The Creation Art of Chardonnay 2018 and Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Chardonnay 2017 did particularly well. We have highlighted many of these before and it’s clear that we are spoilt for choice when it comes to whites. Another notable and successful category – signature white blends – included the likes of Thorne & Daughters Rocking Horse 2018, Reyneke Reserve White 2017, Alheit Cartology 2018, David & Nadia Aristargos 2018, Miles Mossop Saskia 2018 and Rall White 2018.

The reds are dominated by Syrah, with a great Merlot from Shannon, which is yet to be released, and a handful of red blends, including Thelema Rabelais 2015, Waterford The Jem 2014, Leeu Passant Dry Red 2017, David & Nadia Elpidios and Savage Red 2017. These are the wines that are still available.

Cabernet Franc did very well with 2 of our favourites – the Van Loggerenberg Breton 2018 and Gabriëlskloof Landscape Series Cabernet Franc 2017. We also still have a few bottles of the Rall Cinsault 2018 available.
