|
1996 Left Bank and 1998 Right Bank Bordeaux |
R550 |
|
Arguably the finest vintages of each bank in
the 90s, these are starting to hit maturity
but of course will plateau well through the
next decade or two. Robert Parker rates the
Medoc 1996, Pomerol 1998 and St Emilion 1998
all 96/100 on his vintage scale. Taste,
Angelus, Monbousquet, Pontet Canet, Calon
Segur and many more...

Burgundy 2007 |
R450 |
|
Jancis Robinson views 2007 as a 'white wine
vintage' . High expectations after an
extremely warm summer where somewhat dashed
due to cool and damp weather before harvest.
Therefore yields were heavily down on 2006
and the reds are more gentle and charming
compared to more mineral whites. We taste
the Corton Grand Crus of Florente de Merode,
various crus (including Clos Vouget and
Corton Charlamagne) from Drouhin, benchmark
Vosne-Romanee from Liger-Belair and finally
Corton-Charlamagne from Leqin Colin!

Southern
Rhone 2007 |
R250 |
|
"the greatest vintage of my 30+ years
tasting there" - Robert Parker. We will
discover that the South of France delivers
on all levels from Vin de Pays
through to single-vineyard Chateauneuf! It
will be headlined by the Domaine Grand
Veneur Vielle Vignes
Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Parker 95-97+) through
to the Origines and Champauvins
Cote-du-Rhone. Then a series of great value
Chapoutier, Chateau Capion and Domaine Grier
2007s.
Wednesday 28th October - Cape Town |
|
Piedmont 2005 and Mount Etna |
R300 |
|
We review the classic 2005 vintage with the
great Barolos from Marengo, Clerico and Corino.
Along with these benchmarks, great value
Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo d'Alba will
be tasted. And then, perhaps our most exciting
wines we have imported (ever?), we taste a small
project by Italian wine aficionado Marc de Grazia,
Terre Nere. Made from native varieties planted high
up on the volcanic ash slopes of Mount Etna,
Terre Nere presents Burgundian principals
and styling in Sicily!

Modern
vs Traditional 18/03/09 |

Over the last 2 decades there
has been a massive divergence in wine styles
within each winemaking region. Often high

traditional wines in the regions of Piedmont,
Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone, Rioja and
South Africa Highlights will include the
fabulous 2005s of Clos Fourtet (RP98) and L'Arrosee (RP93)
