Notes

Jasper Wickens, previously the assistant winemaker at Badenhorst Family Wines, has built up a following in a very short time – and for good reason. This Young Gun has a deft touch and his wines are always measured, typically ‘Swartland’ and, most of all, delicious!

The 2018 Swerwer Rooi-Groen Sémillon is interesting and joins a small band of Sémillon Gris bottlings in SA. It’s a unique wine with a touch of tannin and savoury, yet exciting flavours. If you love this style, it is a must!

Tasting notes:
'From a natural mutation of Semillon that has pink-red berries. Pale amber in colour. A top note of potpourri before citrus, orange and red apple to go with ginger and other spice. Relatively full bodied (alcohol: 13.5%) with soft acidity and a gently savoury finish – something very comforting about drinking this wine.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 90/100

'The wine has shimmering red-copper tones. The nose is a melange of honey blossom and yellow and orange stonefruits with a crisp wet stone minerality. Nectarine, peach and melon flavours fill the pallet and is accentuated with a flinty fresh and slightly grippy texture. Fruit fades for a lingering, slightly savoury finish.' – Winemaker

Winemakers notes:
Swerwer refers to the restless winemaker who is answering to the call of faraway wine lands, inspired to explore unfamiliar regions and experience different wine cultures. They follow the seasons like swallows to distant shores… in search for uncharted terroir, the perfect vintage and the ultimate wine adventure.
