Notes

Jasper Wickens, previously the assistant winemaker at Badenhorst Family Wines, has built up a following in a very short time – and for good reason. This Young Gun has a deft touch and his wines are always measured, typically ‘Swartland’ and, most of all, delicious!

The 2018 Swerwer Red is a unique blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca with the Tinta adding grippy tannins and balancing its juiciness – very impressive indeed. It offers both great drinking pleasure now while having the stuffing to evolve beautifully.

Right from the very first sip, this wine is immediately delicious but, unlike many medium-bodied and fresher styles, the 2018 Swerwer Red has more flesh and seriousness to its structure.

Tasting notes:
'From Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca. Translucent in colour. Very fragrant nose with notes of rose, musk, herbs and olive plus red and black fruit. A scintillating palate with lovely fruit purity and zip to go with fine yet grippy tannins, the finish having a pleasantly salty quality. Just wonderfully poised and an excellent example of a “new wave” red.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

'Aromatic attack of floral notes and sour red fruit with warm fynbos shrubbery in the background. A juicy and elegant palette with sour red and blue-black forest fruits like Raspberry, Mulberry, blueberry and black cherry fill the flavour profile and ends with grippy black tea tannins.' – Winemaker

Winemakers notes:
Swerwer refers to the restless winemaker who is answering to the call of faraway wine lands, inspired to explore unfamiliar regions and experience different wine cultures. They follow the seasons like swallows to distant shores… in search for uncharted terroir, the perfect vintage and the ultimate wine adventure.
