Notes

The vision of winemaker Koen Roose is to produce elegant wines that are sexy and pure but at the same time unique, a little wild even. Squeaky clean is not for him. Personality is important and at Spioenkop, whether it’s to do with his atypical vineyard plantings or the combination of Old and New World in his boutique wine cellar, technology and laboratory analyses will only be used to assist the winemaker and never to detract from the importance of human involvement.

Tasting notes:
'Chenin off ferricrete soils. 17 nervy, fine aromas, with earth-nutty notes. Excellent balance - acidity & sugar (subtle 6.6 g/l) higher than Johanna, but poised & integrated, entwined with intense flavour, for exultant fantail finish. 9 months on lees, 3 in oak. 16 focused & tense.' – Platters Wine Guide 2019, 5*

'From vineyard grown on ferricrete. Matured for nine months in tank before three months in barrel on Chardonnay lees. A subtle nose of cut apple, white peach, naartjie and spice. Medium bodied with striking acidity and a salty finish.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100
