Notes

'Grown on red ferricrete soils, this remarkable eight-year-old vineyard is planted with two Riesling clones (110 and 239). Naturally fermented and with levels of acidity that wouldn’t look out of place in Germany, it’s so pure that it’s almost transparent. Bone dry, with amazing focus and levels of extract, it’s like a South African Cuvée Frédéric Emile. Drink: 2016-25.‘ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016

Koen Roos produces one of the finest Rieslings in South Africa. The high altitude and cool climate of the Spioenkop terrior in Elgin has proven to be ideal for this slate and minerally styled wine. John Platter selected the 2013 as one of his 7 wines to present at the 2015 Swartland Revolution, saying that it was the finest South African Riesling that he has ever tasted.

'Smells slightly more like Clare Valley than the Mosel but nothing wrong with that. Bone dry and very refreshing. Lime and explosive fruit. Well delineated and extremely thirst-quenching. A hint of spritz and nothing too tarty. A hint of natural passion fruit juice but nothing too technical. Drink 2016-2020' – Jancis Robinson 16.5/20
