Notes

'Swartland (13.5%) There are only two barrels of this first release Syrah from Solms-Delta, but it’s the best red yet from this rapidly improving producer. Grown on shale soils in Papkuilsfontein, this is like a Cape Crozes-Hermitage showing blueberry and liquorice flavours, some wild herbs and a peppery flourish. Drink: 2016-21' – Tim Atkin MW, 93/100

'From 24 year old dryland vines in the Swartland. Spontaneous fermentation, 20% whole bunch before maturation lasting 12 months in older 500-litre barrels. A dramatic rendition of the variety – the nose abounds with fynbos and roses, red fruit and pepper while the palate displays particular focus – pure fruit, fresh acidity and pleasantly firm tannins, the finish long and savoury.' – Christian Eedes, 94/100

This exceptional collection is made with specially sourced grapes from individual parcels that express the unique characteristics of their terroir. The wines’ distinctive characters are best suited to life’s singular moments.

The harvest:
The Syrah is hand harvested from a 24-year-old dryland vineyard grown in shale soils on Papkuilsfontein farm in the foothills of the Swartland. The vines reflect the rugged terroir of the region and the low yield produces intense, concentrated bunches.

This is a terroir-focused, wooded red. 20% whole bunch, spontaneous fermentation. Matured for 12 months in 3rd fill 500l French oak barrels. The Syrah should reach its peak between 3-5 years maturation.

Tasting notes:
Dark and brooding, the Syrah shows Blueberries and liquorice that opens up to wild herbs and peppery spice. The palate is concentrated and plush with red fruit that is underpinned with fine tannin.

Analysis:
Alc: 13.5% RS: 1.7 g/l TA: 5.4 g/l pH: 3.70
