Notes

52% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir

At Piper-Heidsieck they do not have a predefined recipe for vintage champagnes. Each vintage and each blend are unique. This freedom reflects the exceptional, unique character of their champagnes.

With the precision of a watchmaker, they select until 18 crus, primarily Premiers Crus and Grands Crus. Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims will give the perfect structure and balance to the wines, seconded by Chardonnay from la Cote des Blancs and Montagne de Reims which expresses the wine's elegance and charm. Champagnes that will mature while remaining youthful and fresh.

Each vintage champagne creation is unique. The generous and crystalline Vintage 2008 offers an outstanding take on the traditional balance between subtly ripened Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs, from 20 crus. Unique in character, this wine is refined by extended aging.

Tasting notes:
'Pale to mid-gold in colour, with a very fine mousse. The vintage blend of almost equal parts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir has fine-grained, pure, delicately lifted aromas of crushed stone, plant sap and understated vanilla with just a little creaminess from its yeast lees. It's barely fruity at all, and the classy reticence of the aromas suggest it has many years' ageing ahead. On the palate, it is tight, pure, acidic: a fencer's lunge, in terms of its fine balance and incision; typical of the purity and tight clasp of the '08 vintage. The flavours, too, are restrained and tight-sewn for the time being: bracingly citric and saline. Impressive now but it promises much for the future, too.' – Decanter World Wine Awards, 97/100

'The 2008 Vintage Brut offers a clear and toasty aroma on the nose. Pure, fresh, lean and delicate but complex and mineral on the palate, this is a lithe and elegant, very finessed and persistent 2008 with grip and expression. This is a complex, intense yet light and very elegant Champagne with a pure, mineral-structured and persistent finish.' – Wine Advocate, 94/100

'An elegant, toasty version, featuring firm, focusing acidity layered with rich hints of canelé, dried apricot, coffee liqueur and star anise. Bright and citrusy, with a long, mouthwatering finish.' – Wine Spectator, 93/100
