Intellego, Chenin Blanc 2018

Notes

Jurgen Gouws, who worked with Craig Hawkins at prominent Swartland property Lammershoek before the change of ownership, continues to make some individualistic wines under his own label called Intellego.

The Intellego Chenin Blanc is a blend of two parcels, a combination of granite and gravel sites in the South and South West Swartland appellation.

Tasting notes:
'Entirely from Paardeberg fruit. An appealing nose of potpourri, citrus and peach. The palate is somewhat curious – sweet on entry, savoury on the finish but mid-palate missing. The analysis is extraordinary – alcohol: 12%, residual sugar: 5.9g/l, TA 7.45g/l and pH 2.9 so perhaps time to settle down.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 90/100

Winemakers notes:
Starting off the 11th January with the Granite site it promised to be high in quality which the end result were. The parcel planted on the Oakleaf site only ripened 3 weeks later and both these components compliment one another in this blend. Fermented and aged on the gross lees for 10 months in a mixture of 228L & 500L French oak barrels.
