Notes

Elegant clean wines are the hallmark of the Migliarina brand. All wines are individually hand crafted from some of the best vineyards in the Cape region with exceptional care being taken in preserving varietal and fruit character. Keeping it simple in the cellar with minimum intervention is the basis for ensuring that the wines are fruit driven and elegant.

Tasting notes:
'100% Varietal Grenache, single vineyard aged 7 months in shaven oak, untoasted. Inoculated, whole berry, destemmed, cold fermented (max 13 to 20 deg) taking 3 weeks to finish fermentation. Incredibly pretty wine with fragrant raspberry, strawberry, red cherry perfume notes with an almost Cinsault-like Turkish delight, marzipan, parma violets and blood orange lift. Carsten’s mantra is not to 'spoil' the wine with too much savoury sappy spice and oak, hence no whole bunch and the obsessive focus on purity, precision and perfume. The saline, cassis, oyster shell notes are incredible. A profound expression.' – Greg Sherwood MW, 93/100

'The 2017 Grenache was fermented on the skins and saw no new oak. The fleshy, ripe bouquet of red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit is a little earthy in style. The palate is well balanced, with fleshy, rounded red berry fruit laced with white pepper and bay leaf, and nicely proportioned toward a smooth finish that slips down the throat with ease. Lovely.' – Neal Martin Report 2018, 92/100

'The colour is a light ruby red. On the nose it is perfumed with sweet raspberry, spice and a touch of black cherry. The palate is soft, yet firm tannins with a velvety mid palate and lasting forest berry finish.' – Carsten Migliarina, Winemaker

Viticulture:
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single vineyard in Wellington. This wine was bottled November 2017 and is very young at the moment. Only bottles 4430 were produced.

Vinification:
The grapes were harvested at 23 balling in lug boxes. In the cellar the grapes were fermented at between 18 and 22 degrees for 7 days on the skins and malo-lactic fermentation was done in tank. The wine was matured in shaven French barrels to ensure micro oxidation and polymerisation of the tannins with minimal wood.
