Restless River, Wanderlust Grenache 2017

R325

4 in stock

Notes

Restless River wines are hand crafted by the Wessels family on their farm in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, next door to the coastal village of Hermanus in the Western Cape, South Africa. The farm is owned and run by Craig and Anne, winemaker and manager respectively.

Tasting notes:
'The Vrede vineyard is one of the great sites in the Walker Bay area, but it’s better known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay than Grenache. This one off is a curiosity, made with fruit from the southern side of each row and fermented with whole bunches. Light, pale and fragrant, with alluring cherry and strawberry fruit. 2019-24.' – Tim Atkin SA Report 2017, 92/100

''Wanderlust' is a new label designating experimental wines allowing winemaker Craig Wessels to tackle something different every vintage. Grapes for the 2017 come from a Hemel-en-Aarde Valley vineyard, winemaking involving partial carbonic maceration and maturation lasting seven months in old oak. Cranberry and red cherry while the palate is light bodied with bright acidity and fine tannins – plenty of pure, clean fruit and not too angular. In fact, rather winning. Alcohol: 13.2%.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 89/100
