Numanthia Numanthia 2007 WA 94 5 R 450.00

Wine:  Numanthia

The 2007 Numanthia is marginally more approachable but it, too, is a dense, layered, voluminous, structured wine. Given the requisite cellaring, it will eventually become both elegant and powerful.

Numanthia Numanthia Magnum 2006 WA 94+ 9 R 1,250.00

Wine:  Numanthia Magnum

The mid-level 2006 Numanthia is a deeper color than both vintages of Termes. It displays a brooding bouquet of wood smoke, Asian spices, violets, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, rich, powerful, and incipiently complex, it merits 5-7 years of additional bottle age and will offer prime drinking from 2015 to 2026

Numanthia Termanthia 2006 WA 96+ - S/O

Wine:  Termanthia

The 2006 Termanthia is a glass-staining opaque purple color. The aromatics are a bit taciturn at the moment but with coaxing, brooding black fruits, wood smoke, pencil lead, tar, espresso, and blackberry aromas emerge. On the palate, the wine is large-scaled, dense, and nearly impenetrable. The fruit is there; it is just densely packed and tightly wound. Give it a decade in the cellar and start drinking it from 2020 through 2046.

Teso La Monja Alabaster 2008 WA 95 9 R 1,250.00

Wine:  Alabaster

The 2008 Alabaster went through malolactic in new French oak followed by racking to another set of 100% new barrels (the so-called 200% new oak treatment) where it remained for 18 months. Purple/black in color, it offers up a brooding bouquet of espresso, tar, licorice, minerals, lavender, and brooding black fruits. On the palate the oak is integrated but this massive effort will require a minimum of 8-10 years to become civilized. Exceptionally dense and rich but with all the right stuff present, it will be interesting to see how this behemoth of a wine turns out in another 15-20 years.

Teso La Monja Victorino 2008 WA 92 22 R 395.00

Wine:  Victorino

The 2008 Victorino went through malolactic in new French oak followed by 18 months of aging in new barrels. Dense purple in color, it displays an already complex bouquet of Asian spices, sandalwood, leather, balsamic, and brooding black fruits. Dense and backward on the palate but well-balanced, it mandates a minimum of 5-7 years of cellaring. It will provide prime drinking from 2017 to 2028.
