The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão). The label is by artist Leonora van Staden from Stellenbosh. Ubuntu is an ethic or humanist philosophy focusing on people's loyalties and relationships. The word has its origin in the Bantu languages of southern Africa and is seen as a classical African concept.

The grapes are picked at optimum ripeness, with high acidity contents and balanced sugar levels; after selection, the stalk was total. The fermentation took place in stainless steel vats with 8-15 days of skin maceration. 15% of the wine was aged in French oak used barrels for 12 months.

Tasting note:
Vivid ruby color, of medium concentration. Vibrant on the nose, scented with fresh and very expressive wild fruit notes. Spices and tea leaves harmoniously combine with a balsamic profile. On the palate, this vintage is more elegant than the previous edition and has a markedly mineral profile and a long finish. It has good acidity and soft tannins and it's wonderful balance prevents it from being too heavy.

The 2015 Twisted red is a Douro field blend with modest oak treatment. It is a particularly nice deal this year. This is what I call a "summer red" these days. Pure, clean and on the lighter side, it has vivid fruit and tons of flavor. It also has the acidity to support the fruit and lift it, without a big hit of alcohol. You can drink this very elegant red a bit cooler than normal if you wish, but it has just enough stuffing to hold up to food, too. This has a ceiling--because I don't expect it to turn into anything more interesting--but at the moment, it is remarkably appealing, perhaps my favorite Twisted red ever. It will hold a reasonable time, but it won't likely reward the effort of holding it. Dive in. Revel in its freshness and purity. At the moment, you might think it is underrated. This is typically under $20, although an exact price was not provided. – Wine Advocate, 88/100
