NIEPOORT & SADIE - R250 - Wednesday 21 July - Wine Cellar

Eben Sadie will guide you through his revolutionary new wines that have been made in partnership with legend Dirk Niepoort of Portugal. We will also taste the prestigious Mrs Kirsten as well as the Palladius and Columella. Whilst  on the Niepoort theme we will also cover the new 2007 Niepoorts from Vertente through to Redoma, Batuta and of course the rare Charme. A tasting not to be missed!

 

LEFT BANK BORDEAUX - R350 - Wednesday 4 August - Wine Cellar

A more informative tasting where we will run through the various communes and vintages of the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated wines of the Left Bank. Margaux, Pauillac, St Julien and St Estephe will of course be the focus, but Moulis and the Haut Medoc will also be covered. Highlights will include Grand Puy Lacoste, Leoville Barton and Montrose. We end off with a Duhart Milon 1990!

 

RIGHT BANK BORDEAUX - R350 - Wednesday 11th August - Wine Cellar

A more informative tasting where we will run through the various communes and vintages of the Merlot-dominated wines of the Right Bank. St Emilion and Pomerol will be the focus, but the whites and reds of Pessac Leognan will also be covered in this tasting. Highlights include; Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2007 and Pavie Macquin 1998. We end off by tasting one of the finest Pomerols, Chateau Evangile, in the 2006 and 1994 vintages.

 

BENCHMARK BURGUNDY - R2400 - Friday 13th August - Auslese Cape Town

A chance to experience some of the greatest producers, from the greatest vintages and most highly regarded vineyards across Burgundy. Harald Bresselschmidt will once again pair a fabulous 4 course menu in an informal but intimate seating of 12 persons. The wines speak for themselves...

CHATEAU LATOUR VERTICAL - R1600 - Friday 20th August - Auberge Michel Joburg

We discover why Chateau Latour is most often the 'Wine of the Vintage' in Bordeaux. Statements such as "The brilliant 2002 Latour is a tour de force from a great estate that has hit all cylinders, producing a surprisingly profound wine in an irregular vintage" from Robert Parker (96/100) suggest why it's atop the First Growth pile. We will taste through 1989, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2002 all directly from the Chateau. A 3-course dinner with Bordeaux wines will follow in an intimate setting of 12 persons.

 

NEW WORLD WINES - R300 - Wednesday 25th August Wine Cellar

A chance to taste South Africa's competition in the New World. We will cover the USA, Chile, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. Domaine Drouhin's Oregon Pinot and Chardonnay as well as a Robert Mondavi Cabernet Reserve will be certain highlights from the USA. Spinifex from Australia, Craggy Range and Koru from New Zealand, Casa Lospostolle from Chile will also be tasted.

 

DORP STREET MCC & CHAMPAGNE FESTIVAL - R400 - Saturday 28 August

An unlimited informal tasting of 10 boutique Champagne and 10 boutique MCC producers in Stellenbosch organized by Champagne Diva Inke Gouws and Jonathan Steyn of Balthazar. Wine Cellar will be showing the Le Mesnil Champagnes.  For more info email inke@inkegouwschampagne.co.za

"BORDEAUX'S HALLELUJAH - AS GOOD AS IT GETS - , 2000 is the greatest vintage ever!." Issue 139 - February, 2002 Robert Parker Jr. There is little doubt how good Bordeaux 2000 was in its youth, but how are they aging? Not since 1990 had there been such consistent quality across Bordeaux as well as at each appellation level. The line up includes many Parker 90+ wines including the 96s given to Pichon Baron and Montrose. Carruades de Lafite, Gruaud Larose, Grand Puy Lacoste will also be included.  

Chapoutier 1997 Single Vineyards - R995

Friday 12 February Auslese  

Only 8 seats will be available for this dinner. Harald Bresselschmidt of Aubergine will pair a magic course with each of the 6 Séléctions Parcellaires that have made Chapoutier so famous. Robert Parker touts these as some of the 'world’s greatest wines from single parcels of old vines'. From Hermitage, Le Meal (RP94), Ermite (RP94) and L'Oree (RP98-100), from Cote Rotie's Le Mordoree (RP94), St Josephs Le Grantis Blanc (RP90-93) and Chateauneuf du pape's Barbe Rac (RP88) will make up this rare lineup.

We will taste the new vintages of Maison Trimbach and Domaines Schlumberger, including the iconic Clos St Hune that regarded as one of the finest Rieslings in world. Benchmark offerings from Weinbach, Zind-Humbrecht, Sipp and Schoffit will also be tasted.

Barolo 1996 horizontal - R1300

Friday 12 March Auslese  

Only 12 seats will be available for this tasting. 1996 is regarded as a benchmark yet classic vintage in the 90s that was incredibly tannic in its youth. All the big names will show up on the night; Altare, Ceretto, Giacosa, Grasso, Sandrone, Scavino and Voerzio. A two course dinner with Barolo will be included.

Friday 9 April Auslese SOLD OUT

Petrus, Cheval Blanc, Ausone, Lafite, Mouton, Latour, Margaux and Haut Brion. At 15 years these are starting to approach maturity from a classical, but highly regarded vintage. Only 12 seats will be available for this tasting and a 3 course dinner with 1995 Bordeaux will follow the tasting. This is expected to be fully subscribed rather quickly!

The new vintages of our heralded single vineyard Spanish icons will be reviewed: Numanthia, Termanthia, Finca El Bosque, Amancio, El Puntido and La Nieta are some of the most highly rated wines in Spain. We also introduce the new Toro project of Marcus Eguren, Teso La Monya, after the huge success of Numanthia with which we will compared. Each Sierra Cantabria Rioja quality level from Cosecha through to Gran Riserva will also be tasted.

2007 Produced a magnificent Southern Rhône vintage where the wines are rich, tannic and ultra-concentrated. The Northern wines are more classic and fine but still exceptional. Chapoutier's single vineyards, Rene Rostaing's Cote Roties and Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneufs will be the highlights.

A classic white vintage benefiting from a cooler summer and ideal September weather. We taste the top dry whites such as Domaine de Chevalier and Smith Haut Lafitte as well as sweets from Sauternes and Barsac. The top chateau always tend to produce great reds to; the highly-rated Pontet Canet and Leoville Barton etc will also be tasted.

 

Super Tuscans in the 90's - R1300

Friday 7 May Auslese  

Only 12 seats are available for this tasting of Super Tuscan 'First Growths'. Ornellaia 1994, Solaia 1996, Sassicaia 1996, Guado al Tasso 1996, Solengo 1997, Tignanello 1999 and Castello di Rampolla 1998 will be included. A two course dinner with Super Tuscans will follow.

Wine Cellar and Miele tastings between 12 and 18 wines are tasted each evening in a blind but informal discussion format. We start @ 18:30 and are usually finished by 20:00.
