Grenache

Naude, Grenache 2014

R300

60 in stock

Notes

This is one of the finest and most exciting Grenaches we have tasted outside France and Spain. It is light in colour with a slightly rusty rim, quite typical of traditional Grenache in the Southern Rhône. Rather quiet at first, after 3 hours decanting the nose comes alive with floral notes, ripe plums and Chinese spice. There is a deep, savoury complexity that haunts the palate and binds into sweet red fruits and chalky tannins. It is exquisitely balanced and finely detailed. Drink over the next decade.

A leading Swartland winemaker as well as a prominent wine collector both likened the 2014 Naudé Grenache to the famous Château Rayas.

14% Alcohol. Produced from 8-year-old Paardeberg vineyards.

'Ian Naudé of Adoro might be something of an old hand in the local wine industry but he’s making some of the most appealing new-wave wines around, as these latest releases again show. From an eight-year-old Paardeberg vineyard. Wild strawberry and spice plus cured meat and a little earthiness. Medium bodied yet quite broad with moderate acidity. Subtle and intricate, this wine inveigles its way into your affections.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za 92/100
