Notes

Elegant clean wines are the hallmark of the Migliarina brand. All wines are individually hand crafted from some of the best vineyards in the Cape region with exceptional care being taken in preserving varietal and fruit character. Keeping it simple in the cellar with minimum intervention is the basis for ensuring that the wines are fruit driven and elegant.

Tasting notes:
'10 weeks on the skins. 14 months in old oak, inoculated, unfined, unfiltered, destalked, destemmed, with initially whole berry cold fermentation in tank allowing malo on skins in tank. Pure Helderberg expression with delicious blackberry, iodine, coriander and lavender and subtle hints of fraise des bois. A medium bodied, classical old world European style wine with subtle restrained fruit, black berry salinity, some accessibility in young but embroidered with complex mineral pithy tannins and a fresh linear finish. Still taut, broody and tight, the finish will become naturally embellished with extra time in bottle. A great vintage and a very serious, “adults only” top shelf effort.' – Greg Sherwood MW, 94/100

'The 2015 Syrah underwent a nine-week maceration and was aged entirely in used wood. It has a perfumed bouquet of dark cherry, briar and light pressed flower scents, plus just a touch of raspberry preserve in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity, and harmonious in the mouth, displaying a lovely grainy texture toward the classically styled finish. This is a very well crafted Syrah.' – Neal Martin Report 2018, 92/100

'The colour is dark ruby red with a youthful purple rim. On the nose is blackberry, iodine, coriander and lavender and subtle hints of wild strawberry. The palate is soft, yet firm tannins with a creamy mid palate and lasting forest berry finish.' – Carsten Migliarina, Winemaker

Viticulture:
The grapes for this wine were sourced from three different vineyards in Stellenbosch (Helderberg) region. This wine was bottled in August 2017 and is starting to settle, only 4256 bottles were produced.

In the cellar the grapes were fermented at between 16 and 22 degrees with an average of 63 days skin contact and malo-lactic fermentation was done on the skins. The wine was matured in French, Hungarian and Romanian oak barrels for 14 months.
