A festive Insiders’ case: A selection curated for you!

It was a lot of fun putting this pack together. Each wine was specially selected with our summer festivities in mind. They are well-suited to the variety we are bound to find on our celebratory tables! We have a fantastic sparkling wine, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, a light white and red, and a couple of fresh red blends with the power to stand up to the roasts and ‘braaivleis’ that are bound to be enjoyed. This pack has a wine for every occasion as well as being the perfect selection for your main festive feast.

Silverthorn, The Green Man 2015 – R 250
Vibrant green/yellow hue with a fine, twirling bead of bubbles. Fresh aromas of green apple and Acacia blossom backed up by subtle hints of minerality and whiffs of freshly baked brioche. A well-balanced palate with an elegant structure and fine mousse which imparts a gentle explosion of bubbles on the palate and a long finish. – Silverthorn Winemaker

Constantia Glen, Sauvignon Blanc 2017 – R 145
The Sauvignon Blanc 2017 offers refined fruit focus and lovely tensile freshness. Racy lime, starfruit, gooseberry and some white pepper create a bright impression. Less Sémillon (2%) and longer lees time (5 months) than the 2016, the totality giving it richness and balance. – Platter's Wine Guide 2018, 5*

Paul Cluver, Close Encounter Riesling 2016 – R 245
Sweeter of the Riesling pair (38 g/l sugar), the 2016 ups the ante on the 2015. Partly oaked (20% for 15 months in older barrels), has depth and breadth with ripe mango and apricot flavours, masses of fruit extract for mouth-filling pleasure. Light footed at 9.4% alcohol. – Platter's Wine Guide 2018, 5*

Thorne & Daughters, Copper Pot Pinot Noir 2016 – R 135
John Seccombe of Thorne & Daughters seems to have a particularly refined aesthetic when it comes to winemaking and it’s thrilling to watch it gain greater elucidation with each passing vintage. John's methods are uncomplicated, his standards stringent and his volumes small (but growing). Thoughtful, fastidious and nuanced are the three words that come to mind when talking about John the winemaker. He prizes flavour, balance, precision and texture in his wines and the 2016s do not disappoint. – Christian Eedes

Joostenberg, Bakermat Red Blend 2014 – R 190
Matured for 18 months in French oak, 15% new. Very fragrant on the nose with notes of flowers and scrub before red fruit and spice. The palate is juicy and fresh with crunchy, nicely grippy tannins. Has a lovely vibrancy about it. – Christian Eedes, Laurium Capital Signature Red Blend Report 2016, 94/100

Niepoort, Ubunto Tinto 2015 – R 165
This is what I call a ’summer red’ these days. Pure, clean and on the lighter side, it has vivid fruit and tons of flavour. It also has the acidity to support the fruit and lift it, without a big hit of alcohol. You can drink this very elegant red a bit cooler than normal if you wish, but it has just enough stuffing to hold up to food, too... At the moment, it is remarkably appealing, perhaps my favorite Ubuntu red ever. Dive in. Revel in its freshness and purity. – Wine Advocate, 88/100
