Notes

'Triumphantly following on from the 2013 vintage, this was tricky to grow and make but worth the effort. Showing a lowest-ever 12.5% alcohol and fermented with 25% whole bunches, it has intense violet, lavender and fynbos aromas, lots of pepper spice, sappy tannins and dark berry concentration. 2018-24'. – Tim Atkin, Special South Africa Report 2017, 95/100

Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2017 Awards:
– Old Mutual Trophy for Best Red Wine Overall
– Makro Trophy for Best Shiraz

Tasting notes:
The indigenous. Fynbos plants that surround the vineyard, have a huge impact on the flavour profile. Lots of typical Fynbos herbs, thyme, bugu and white pepper then continue onto the palate. Violets, black olives and blue berry flavours add complexity to this lingering wine. Food pairings: de-boned Karoo lamb on a braai or red wine lamb shanks and stews.

See here, where it was the top scoring wine in SA Shiraz vs Australia.

'Black fruit, olives, pepper and spice plus a slight malty quality on the nose. Super-intense on the palate but perhaps not as fresh as it could be as well as being quite drying on the finish, this possibly due to 100% whole-bunch fermentation. A very particular style.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za
