Le Riche, Richesse 2015

R155

8 in stock

Notes

41% Cabernet Sauvigon, 18% Cinsaut, 13% Petit Verdot, 11% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 9% Malbec

From the exceptional 2015 vintage, the Le Riche Richesse 2015 is a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux blend that, importantly, contains 18% Cinsaut. Cinsaut has played a significant role in many of SA’s famous, long-living wines, including the likes of Chateau Libertas, Lanzerac and Rustenberg. By adding Cinsaut grapes to the tiny-berried Cabernet-based wines, you add approachability without detracting from the wine’s structure. This new-release Richesse epitomises that old, unique South African style in a re-imagined approach.

Made by Christo Le Riche, this can be seen as an interpretation of the famous, old Rustenberg Dry Red that was made by his dad, Etienne. Like the Rustenbergs of the past, the 2015 Richesse offers exceptional value and approachable drinking, yet is well-suited to serious occasions.

The 2015 Richesse is modern on entry with vibrant black cherry and plum notes. It is juicy but reined in by a gravelly earthiness that follows on to a medium-bodied, exuberant palate and finishes wonderfully dry. Sourced from a variety of Stellenbosch vineyards, the Cinsaut and all five Bordeaux varieties are vinified separately in traditional open fermenters. Raised in older oak for 12 months, the components are then blended and matured in 225 and 4,500L older oak barrels for a further 8 months. The wine sees no new oak. Drink 5 – 8 years from vintage.

Tasting notes:
'Richesse is not a second wine but “an introduction wine”, according to Christo Le Riche. Using all five red Bordeaux varieties and 18% Cinsaut for the first time, it’s floral, forward and very appealing with bright acidity, leafy tannins and understated oak. 2018-22'. – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 91/100

'Black fruit, some leafiness and pencil shavings on the nose. Lovely purity and depth of fruit, the finish long and dry. Stylish and sophisticated’. – Signature Red Blend Report, 90/100
