Notes

'Classic styling, blackcurrant, a herbaceous edge, dark chocolate, 15's layers are seductive, involving. Signature for these cabs is good oaking (here 20 months, 40% new), a bed of fine-grained tannins on which the succulence rests. 13 typically fruit-opulent; 14 sold out unreviewed'. – Platter's Wine Guide 2018, 5*

Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon of this quality, at this price, simply cannot be overlooked. The 2015 Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Cabernet is a cracker and likely to eclipse both the 2012’s Platter’s 5 star and the 2013’s Prescient Report 90 points.

Tasting notes:
'The Helderberg sub-region supplies most of the fruit for this rich, compact, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon. Oaky and firm, it’s still very youthful, but has the structure and fruit intensity to age gracefully over the next decade or so. 2019-26'. – Tim Atkin, Special South Africa Report 2017, 92/100

The brightness of this hallowed vintage shines through with the perfect balance of cassis, red fruit, earth and a hint of tomato leaf, typical of Helderberg Cab. The 40% new oak is seamlessly integrated into finely-tuned tannins and an elegant 14% alcohol shell. World-class, textbook Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon.

Internationally experienced Alistair Rimmer joined as cellarmaster in 2014 and is certainly making his mark. Along with phenomenal Chenin Blanc and pure Sauvignon, the 2015 Cabernet shows an extra layer of refinement. Sourced predominantly from a well-draining hillside vineyard on the farm, it is the same vineyard that produced the great Blaauwklippen Cabernets of the 1980s.

Frankly, this Cabernet competes with wines at double or even triple the price. Give it another year and drink to 2025, perhaps longer.
