Notes

Tasting notes:
'56% Chenin Blanc, 17% Viognier, 14% Sauvigon Blanc, 13% Chardonnay. Fermented and matured for 12 months in older French oak. A subtle but compelling nose of citrus and peach plus dried herbs and yellow earth. Great depth of fruit – dense and thick textured but equally not short of freshness thanks to vibrant acidity, the finish long and savoury. Profoundly good.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za Cape White Blend Report 2017, 95/100

'A polished light yellow gold colour, this wine has a bouquet driven by vanilla and butterscotch with undertones of peach and cut grass. Upfront fruit flavours of peach and apricot are complimented by hints of spice and green pepper as well as a touch of oak. The palate has a crunchy apple acidity which holds the wine together into a long succulent dry finish. Drink 2017-2027.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 93/100

Vintage conditions:
A cold wet winter (as experienced in this vintage) is a good thing for the vine. It goes into full dormancy and wakes up well rested and ready for the season ahead. This was apparent with very even budding and strong early growth during spring. From that point onwards, we experienced a very dry season. Growing conditions however were ideal with warm days and cool nights. This variation in temperature leads to good flavour and colour development in the berries and as a result we had a small crop with great quality. We had our earliest harvest yet starting on 23 January and finishing on 3 March and took 70 tons of grapes into the winery.

Winemaker's comments:
The Keermont Terrasse white blend derives its name from the terraced vineyards on Keermont in the Stellenbosch Mountains from which the grapes are harvested. The backbone of this blend is Chenin blanc from a 46 year old un-irrigated vineyard called ‘Riverside’ and this is complimented by Chenin from two younger vineyards and varying fractions of Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc and Viognier. All grapes used in producing our wines are grown on Keermont Vineyards. Small parcels of grapes are selected according to optimal ripeness and harvested by hand. The grapes are vinified gently and naturally following traditional techniques. White wines are fermented in seasoned French oak barrels and then spend a further 12 months maturing on the lees. Bottling is carried out by hand without filtration. A total of 15 882 bottles of Keermont Terrasse 2015 were produced.
