Notes

Cabernet Sauvignon 68%, Cabernet Franc 16%, Merlot 16%.

'Regarded as a SA 'first growth' Bordeaux blend, traditionally cab-based with merlot, cab franc, as in 14 with 74/17/9 composition. Plush fruit soaks up 100% new French oak, is reined in by long, structuring tannins. Trademark ageability, as for bright-fruited 13. Formats up to 18L'. – Platter's Wine Guide 2018, 5*

Tasting notes:
'Paul Sauer is one of the few genuine Cape icons. Blending mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it always seems to absorb its 24 months in new oak with ease. More forward than the straight Kanonkop Cabernet but just as age worthy, this is savoury and focused with leafy freshness. 2019-30' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 96/100

'The nose is beguiling with notes of red and black fruit, flowers and fresh herbs, a little oyster shell and attractive oak. The palate is medium bodied (alcohol: 14.27%) with pure fruit, fresh acidity and firm but not astringent tannins, the finish long and savoury. It’s supremely elegant and with all great wine, it drinks exceptionally well now but should give great enjoyment for many years to come. – Christian Eedes, 95/100

Full bodied, deep ruby red colour. A combination of the varietals gives you more than the sum of the parts. Very complex bouquet with black currant, red berry, mocha and spicy flavours. Big structured wine with a refined line of elegance. – Wine Maker
