Notes

Tasting notes:
'Signature peppery spice to toned blue/black fruit on exceptional 14. Textured lithe & fresh, acidity as well judged as polished maturation - 18 moths French oak, third new. Structured, elegant & long. Same elevated site as 13'. – Platter's Wine Guide 2018, 5*

'In addition to his day job at Saronsberg, Dewaldt Heyns bottles some very smart wines under his own label. This ripe, aromatic Pinotage, sourced from granite soils and aged in 60% new wood, shows the fine-grained tannins that are the hallmark of his style, complemented by spice and stony grip. 2018-23'. – Tim Atkin, Special South Africa Report 2017, 94/100

The 2014 Eagles Nest Shiraz is a bright fresh and lively ruby colour. On the nose, aromas of ripe red berry fruit, crushed red pepper kernel, violets, and savoury crushed bramble leaf. A creamy mouth filling tannin, with integrated pepper spice embrace your taste buds and are deliciously dry. This wine screams cooler vintage, with elegant spice and restrained fruit all focused by balanced acidity (suggests age-ability). A truly great wine from maturing vineyards, this wine will age gracefully for 20 years from vintage.

Production:
The vineyard aspects range from east to north, and are perfectly positioned for a cool climate Shiraz. All grapes were hand picked, de-stalked and crushed into medium sized open top fermenters. Punch-downs or pump-overs were performed three to four times per day. Fermentation took 12 days to complete, after which the free run wine was drawn off and the skins were pressed. The wine was then racked into French oak barrels. After 20 months in barrel (1/3rd new), selected components of the wine were blended to create a complex and harmonious finished product.

Analysis.
Alc: 13.5% RS: 2.4 g/l TA: 5.1 g/l pH: 3.68
