Delaire Graff, White Reserve 2014

Notes

A wet 2013 winter and unpredictable weather conditions during harvest presented a challenging vintage. However, the subsequent quality is fantastic and resulted in excellent extraction along with full, ripe flavours.

Vineyards:
The Semillon was handpicked in the early hours of the morning from 45 year old Franschhoek vineyards and the Sauvignon Blanc from Darling and Stellenbosch.

Vinification:
Extensive bunch sorting formed part of the quality process. The Semillon was whole bunch pressed and the Sauvignon Blanc was destemmed and crushed. Both were barrel fermented at 17˚C for 20 days. Maturation took place in 225 litre old French oak barrels for 5 months. The wine was then blended and kept in tank on primary lees for an additional 8 months.

Tasting notes:
'Pairing Sauvignon Blanc from Durbanville and Darling with Semillon from Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, this is spicy, elegant and refined, despite the higher alcohol in 2015, with herbal, beeswax and vanilla notes. Usually ages well too.' – Tim Atkin Special Report South Africa 2017, 93/100

Zesty citrus, lime and almond with layers of pineapple, passion fruit and gooseberries. A crisp, spicy minerality adds to a long and lingering finish. – Wine Maker

Blend:
55% Sauvignon Blanc (Darling and Stellenbosch), 45% Semillon (Franschhoek)

Analysis:
Alc: 13% RS: 2.38g/L TA: 6.4g/L pH: 3.38
