Notes

53% Chenin Blanc, 13% Clairette Blanche, 13% Semillon, 10% Roussanne, 9% Viognier and 2% Marsanne

David & Nadia is a family owned Swartland driven project and they focus on a spectrum of organic, old and dry land bush vine vineyards from different areas with different soil types throughout the Swartland, farmed by like-minded people. They are members of the Swartland Independent Producers.

In the vineyard they aim for biological farming and in the cellar they work as natural as possible. It is all about the soil and vineyards after all. They believe in a pure, fresh and natural style where site and soil are at work with minimal influence from a winemaking point of view.

Tasting notes:
'53% Chenin Blanc, 13% Clairette Blanche, 13% Semillon, 10% Roussanne, 9% Viognier and 2% Marsanne – six varieties, 14 vineyards and 20 pickings. An exotic nose showing top notes of flowers and dried grass before peach, apricot, melon and pineapple. The palate has lovely fruit expression, zippy acidity and a savoury finish. Intricate and balanced, this moves really well – great entry and side-palate before a long finish.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 96/100

'A blend of 53% Chenin Blanc, 13% Clairette Blanche, 13% Semillon, 10% Roussanne, 9% Viognier and 2% Marsanne from 14 vineyards. The aromatics of this youthful blend are dominated by the Grand Cru intensity of the Chenin Blanc with sweet floral white blossom notes, dried thatch, crunchy white peaches, honey on white toast and delicious pure pineapple pastille nuances. The palate shows wonderful intensity, concentration and fruit purity framed by vibrantly crisp acids, a pithy yellow fruit melange, distinctive salinity and a genuinely superb granitic mineral complexity. Long, focused and very precise. Winemaking par excellence.' – Greg Sherwood MW, 95+/100

Winemakers notes:
With Old vine Chenin blanc as our main focus, the Aristargos 2018 is yet again predominantly both Chenin blanc and Old Vines driven, with younger Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne blended in. Planting dates vary from 1960 until 2013. Granitic Paardeberg soils form the base of some Chenin blanc vineyards, the two Sémillons and Clairette blanche, while the Marsanne, one Viognier vineyard and more Chenin blanc grows in Iron rich clay soils on the Western side of Malmesbury, blended with more Viognier, Roussanne and more Chenin blanc from the Northerly Clay-rich soils, with finally the oldest Chenin blanc vineyard we work with dating back to 1962 planted in deep river bed sandy soils on underlying schist.

6 varieties, 14 vineyards, 20 pickings, a variety in soils, one appellation, one vision, one wine. Whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented, matured for 11 months in old neutral French oak barrels. The two Sémilllon vineyards were left on their skins for a week before being pressed and matured in a big very old 2 500 L foudré.
