Chateau Pesquie, Terrasses Ventoux Rouge 2017

Notes

54% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 4% Cinsault and 2% Mourvèdre.

Robert Parker calls Château Pesquié one of his ‘all-time favourite producers in France‘ and ‘a phenomenal bargain’ and we agree. Since 2014, when we first imported the Pesquié wines, both the Paradou and Terrasses Rouge have been two of our top-selling wines.

From hillside vineyards below Mont Ventoux, these old-vine Grenache vineyards lie at around 300m in the Ventoux appellation. Limestone clay soils in a cooler part of the Southern Rhône allow the wines to achieve tremendous purity and elegance. ‘The wines sell for a song, yet always deliver high-quality, loads of character and impeccably made profiles,’ says Jeb Dunnuck.

Tasting notes:
'One of the largest estates in the Ventoux, Château Pesquié is now completely organic, with the goal of being biodynamic in 2019. The Chaudière brothers, Alexandre and Frédéric, deserve great credit for building on their parents founding vision. Showing more intensity and depth than the delicious 2016, the 2017 Ventoux Terrasses (tasted from tank) is a blend of 54% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 4% Cinsault and 2% Mourvèdre. Crushed stone notes accent dried spices and raspberries on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate delivers rich, deep fruit flavors, plenty of concentration and an impressive velvety finish.' – The Wine Advocate, 91-93/100

'One of the great value buys out there. The 2017 Terrasses ranks with the finest vintages I’ve tasted. The essence of kirsch liqueur, wild strawberries, and wildflowers flow to a full-bodied, plump, deep, beautifully layered and sexy wine that has medium to full body, ripe tannins, notable minerality, and a great finish. This is a raw, naked expression of this fabulous terroir located just south of Mount Ventoux.' – Jeb Dunnuck, 94/100

About Château Pesquié:

The history of Château Pesquié is the story of a family passionate about the Ventoux region. They recognised the outstanding potential of a region where vines had been cultivated for more than a thousand years.
