I Soda di San Niccolo

Castellare Di Castellina, I Soda di San Niccolo 2013

R1,150

4 in stock

Notes

85% Sangioveto and 15% Malvasia Nera

Castellare di Castellina was born of the union of four estates (Castellare, Caselle, San Niccolò and Le Case) on the initiative of Paolo Panerai, with the aim of producing wine of the best possible quality.

The authentic Chianti Classico. Only native vines, without Cabernet and Merlot, to maintain the typical formula of the most famous of Italian wines, without chasing the fashion that, using even South wines, darkens the beautiful ruby red of Sangioveto.

Tasting notes:
'Intense red with hints of garnet. Deeply sophisticated and showcasing its full pedigree in terms of both the bouquet and palate of the wine. The fruit quality is exceptional and each individual aroma can be distinguished with total clarity, from the cherry to the spices, whose focus and integration are exceptional. ' – Wine maker

'The 2013 I Sodi di S. Niccolò is 85% Sangioveto (a more antique name for Sangiovese) and 15% Malvasia Nera from a single vineyard. This wine opens to a darkly saturated appearance and shows ruby, garnet and purple highlights. The bouquet is powerful but seamless at the same time with smooth transitions between dark cherry, spice, tobacco and moist clay. In the mouth, this wine shows dense extraction, but it never feels too weighed down by that mass. Instead, the freshness of the fruit and the natural acidity give the wine a bright and buoyant personality. Aged in barrique for 30 months, this is a delightful Tuscan red.' – Wine Advocate, 96/100
