Sauvignon Blanc Reserve

Cape Point Vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2016

R200

1 in stock

Notes

Grapes for this wine are picked on the picturesque south-facing Noordhoek slopes from the Peninsulas’ southern most vineyards. The grapes were harvested between 23°B and 24°B in the early hours of the morning and were all hand-picked.

Winemakers comments:
Cape Point Sauvignon Blanc Reserve is selected from 3 vineyard parcels on the Noordhoek property. The nose shows delicate floral elements, grapefruit, stone fruit and limes along with subtle wood spice. This all follows to a rich textured palate all held together by an incredible mineral backbone. The wine shows great structure and will develop incredibly well over the next 5 – 10 years. Serve with line fish, crayfish, scallops and white meat dishes in general.

Tasting notes:
'The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve is 100% barrel-fermented in 600-liter second- and third-fill barrels for 15 months on gross lees. This has a fragrant bouquet in which the barrel influence is very discreet, predominantly because it is used and not new wood. It has a more perfumed bouquet than the Noordhoek Sauvignon Blanc, with touches of white flower complementing the green apples. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity and a slightly weightier style compared to the 2017 tank sample. Flavors of red apple and pear lead to a finish that lingers nicely in the mouth, and a touch of salinity appears on the aftertaste. Excellent.' – Neal Martin Report 2018, 91/100

'The Reserve bottling is always fermented in larger, older wood and comes from three blocks on granite at the top of the farm, exposed to the elements. Waxy, floral and very subtle, with oyster shell and grapefruit flavours, subtle reduction and well integrated oak. Ten per cent Semillon adds a herbal note. Drink 2018-21‘ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017

‘Includes 9% Semillon. Matured for 15 months in older 600-litre barrels. The nose shows white peach, naartjie and blackcurrant with a touch of fennel in the background. The palate has a weightless intensity about it – great fruit concentration and nicely coated acidity before a savoury finish. Moves really well in the mouth and has a real elegance about it.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100
