The grapes for this wine come from a vineyard high in the mountains of Clanwilliam, 25 miles from the sea at 1600ft elevation. Dry farmed, as there is no longer any water available, these 50 +/- year old vines produce a mere 2.5 tons per hectare. The wine has lime/citrus notes with firm acidity. 50% barrel fermented/matured in 400 litre french oak barrels.

The inspiration for the name of the wine and design of the labels was a trip to the Yale Center for British Art. An exhibit of Mary Delany’s work, a remarkable series of botanical collages that are beautifully crafted with hundreds of tiny pieces of cut paper was breathtaking. They are fortunate to have licensed a few of her collages and created these beautiful labels with her art as the primary focal point. Mary was 72 when she created these pieces in the late 1700’s.

Tasting notes:
'Ginny Povall says that this is a one off, but let’s hope someone can persuade her to change her mind. Sourced from superstar grower Joshua Visser, it’s a focused, intense, chiselled, fennel-scented Chenin from sandstone soils on Citrusdal Mountain that’s mealy, complex and incredibly long. 2019-28' – Tim Atkin's SA Special Report 2018, 94/100

'The 2017 The Mary Delany Collection Untitled #1 is pure Chenin Blanc from the Citrusdal Mountains and saw no new wood. It has a fresh nose of Conference pear and red apple mixed with a touch of gooseberry and beeswax. The palate is well balanced, with a lovely, pure pear and gooseberry opening tinged with black currant leaf. I admire the tension and freshness of this Chenin Blanc, and it displays good weight and intensity toward the finish. Very fine.' – Neal Martin, Vinous.com, 91/100
