Notes

Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, the farm's name means 'ravine of the Boekenhout' (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making.

From their Franschhoek vineyards we have two wines. The latter is the Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2016. As the more classic of the two Cabernets, it has an established track record and is one of the finest reds from the region. It impresses with sophistication and power while the fruit is underpinned by earthy complexity.

Tasting notes:
'One of two region-specific Cabernets in the Boekenhoutskloof line up, this is the more austere and focused of the pair. Intensely coloured, with refined oak handling, black cherry and cassis fruit and the concentration to age further in bottle. 2020-28' – Tim Atkin SA Report 2018, 94/100

'The 2016 Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon comes from four adjacent vineyards and one Cabernet Franc parcel, matured in 100% new French barriques for 18 months and the Cabernet Franc barrel-fermented. It has a lifted bouquet, very Left Bank in style, revealing a touch of mint with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and a sprinkling of black pepper, and just a little more delineation on the finish than the Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon. A steadfast, trustworthy Cabernet Sauvignon that should give a decade of drinking pleasure.' – Neal Martin Report 2018, 90/100
