Winemaker's comments:
'Last year around this time I released Limbic 2015 as well as its counterpart Orbitofrontal Cortex 2015. As most of you know, the blend for Limbic was compiled by tapping into my subconscious with EEG technology and creating the best wine in the cellar according to my subconscious. We also then, with our conscious minds made Orbitofrontal Cortex 2015 – the best wine in the cellar made with our Conscious mind. Now Limbic was a once off but we decided to release the best white blend from our cellar as Orbitofrontal Cortex year-on-year. And from one year to the next, the combination of cultivars might vary. The style of the 2016 is very close to the 2015 OFC, just a bit better I think… It is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Fernão Pires, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Sémillon and Clairette Blanche.' – Pieter Walser

Tasting notes:
'This is a beautiful Cape White blend. Floral and cool on the nose, the palate is tight and earthy with a towing savoury depth. It has huge richness at low alcohol and the long, salty finish balances the waxy texture. It should develop over the next 5-8 years.' – Roland Peens (August 2017)

'A brilliant follow up to the highly praised 2015, this is a Chenin and Clairette-dominated blend of six different varieties, with Fernão Pires joining the cuvée this year. Lime zest, pear and banana bread flavours are complemented by waxy lees, subtle oxygenation and a zesty, lime-like finish. 2017-21'. – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 95/100

'Pieter Walser has always eschewed conventional means of marketing his wines relying on QR codes and the internet to tell his story and then trusting in word-of-mouth recommendations but now says that his business has grown to such an extent that you may actually find his wines in your favourite wine shop going forwards. The Orbitofrontal Cortex 2016 (named after the part of your brain where conscious decisions are made) is a blend Grenache Blanc, Fernão Pires, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Semillon and Clairette Blanche. As might be inferred from the components of the blend, it’s a complex wine. Pear, white peach, earth and spice on the nose while the palate is lean and very flavourful with bright acidity and a pithy finish. As with just about everything Walser does, it’s demanding but rewarding.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100
