Notes

Alvarinho fermented and aged in oak. Very unusual bottle shape, like a flute but more chunky.
First impression is a touch smoky and a hint of oak spice but the fragrance of the variety is not overpowered. Tangy with apricot and orange pith, so crisp and deep at the same time. The oak is discreet on the palate. Full bodied and complete and very long. (JH) - JancisRobinson.com

Untasted by Robertparker.com 'The 2015 Alvarinho Muros de Melgaço was aged for six months in used French oak. Sourced from vines from 15 to 20 years in age, it comes in at 13% alcohol. Only showing its oak lightly, this is gorgeously balanced, fresh and even a little steely. Despite the wood, it seems remarkably transparent. The bite on the finish is mostly acidity, not wood related. That juicy finish is filled with fruit, and it is very refreshing. Do you want an enlivening, yet perfectly balanced Vinho Verde in warm weather? Here you go. Beautifully done in this vintage, the brand doesn't get much better. It is probably as good as any I've seen. It should age well and probably even better than the typical offering in the brand.' – Wine Advocate, 92/100

Anselmo Mendes is regarded as the finest producer of Vinho Verde, the ‘green wine’ of northern Portugal. His style is dry, fresh and vibrant and his wines can age phenomenally well, up to 2 decades in fine vintages!

His most recent achievement came in 2006, when his wine “Muros Antigos Alvarinho 2005” was considered one of the best 100 wines of the world by the magazine Wine Enthusiast. There is no doubt that Anselmo Mendes is responsible for some of the best and most famous wines of the Vinho Verde region.
