Notes
'The 2016 Alvarinho Muros Antigos is unoaked and comes in at 12.5% alcohol. This is a terrific value, and there is enough of it to be easily obtainable. Showing fine concentration and plenty of zing and zest on the finish, this is emphasizing freshness and acidity in its youth. It also has the body to absorb the power; but make no mistake, the intensity here is special, and this is built to age.
Focused, transparent and simply gripping, I have to lean up on this in its youth. I suspect it won't disappoint, but it is mightily impressive now for sure. I am not sure it is better than the brilliant 2015, but it may be even more intense. The question now is how it evolves. It was wholly unevolved when tasted in mid-March, not yet as expressive as it should be, but by this summer it should be fine. Sourced from vines over ten years in age, there were 90,000 bottles produced.' – Wine Advocate, 89/100
White wine from the Alvarinho grape variety, grown exclusively in Monção and Melgaço. It originates in vineyards on sunny hillsides with poor granite soils. The wine is very mineral, with a good structure and body while maintaining freshness.
Anselmo Mendes is regarded as the finest producer of Vinho Verde, the ‘green wine’ of northern Portugal. His style is dry, fresh and vibrant and his wines can age phenomenally well, up to 2 decades in fine vintages! His most recent achievement came in 2006, when his wine 'Muros Antigos Alvarinho 2005' was considered one of the best 100 wines of the world by the magazine Wine Enthusiast. There is no doubt that Anselmo Mendes is responsible for some of the best and most famous wines of the Vinho Verde region.
