Alheit Vineyards’ first release of the year – Cartology 2018

'Arguably the Cape’s most exciting up-and-coming producer.'Tim Atkin MW naming Chris Alheit his 2018 Winemaker of the Year

Chris and Suzaan Alheit are, to our minds, SA’s leading white wine producers. After exploding onto the wine scene with their 2011 release, the Cartology has become a modern-day trailblazer and an important force in our local new-wave revolution.

The 2018 Cartology is a marvellous wine. A blend of 10% old-vine Sémillon and 90% old-vine Chenin Blanc, it is a poised snapshot of the 2018 vintage. It starts with hints of lime blossom, fynbos and crushed bay leaf, followed by luscious tangerine notes that lead on to concentrated stone fruit. Certainly more approachable than previous releases, the 2018 offers an immediate abundance of deliciously contained fruit. The palate is quintessential Cartology – textured and precise with a long-lasting acidity. It is a wonderful example of nuanced, attentive winemaking. A truly accomplished wine from SA’s top white wine team.

Always in high demand, this is limited.

‘Please be aware that our wines will be far better three or four years after vintage.’ – Chris Alheit

The 2011 Cartology was the wine that made the international stage sit up and take note! While 2018 was a challenging year, there’s no doubting the pedigree of this wine. At his show in London last year, Chris presented all Cartology vintages, highlighting the longevity of this remarkable cuvée. Across the board, each vintage received high scores from Greg Sherwood and Jancis Robinson.

The Alheit single-vineyard bottlings will only be released later this year. Please indicate your interest by sending an email to James@winecellar.co.za. Take note, there will be a small lot of the Alheit Vineyards Radio Lazarus 2018 available on the Strauss & Co Fine Wine Auction in June – virtually none was produced.
